“I could do it again next year just because it was so interesting. Best physio practice I’ve ever walked through also, congratulations.”“The cycle specific exercises and theory relating to how the body works on the bike……..was very valuable.”“The Bike Set-Up component and Cycling related ‘Load Mastery’ will influence my management of cyclists immeasurably”
Paul Visentini was a great guide and small group tutor who opened many doors previously thought to be shut to the average physio: a tour of the facilities and discussions over dinner with the physios working with Australia’s elite athletes at the AIS at Gavirate, a whole day spent at the MAPEI sports science centre just outside Milan, famous forthe in-depth biomechanical analysis of the world’s elite professional cyclists, and a visit to a working Italian bicycle factory, where hand made carbon-fibre bikes are built to suit the individual rider. Having Paul’s fluent Italian on hand also helped to interact with the local professionals. To top it all off, the scenery of the Italian lakes ofMaggiore, Varese and Como, the Dolomites around Cortina, and the Italian Alps near Bormio was breathtaking, the food delicious and coffee reliable and plentiful. The cycling component was led by a very experienced tour guide, Kevin Ford, who further enhanced the learning by guiding me, a novice cyclist up and down some of the biggest climbs in Italian cycling. The knowledge I gainedin this regard will give me more ability to relate to keen cycling patients. I cannot recommend thistrip highly enough.
Staying in the AIS European Training Centre in Gavirate was sensational, and being immersed in the culture and fine cuisine of Northern Italy a treat, not to mention the spectacular views encountered on the daily rides. Paul was a fantastic tour guide, with his impeccable Italian on hand to help connect with the locals and discover intimately the towns of Bormio, Bergamo and Varese. His knowledge of both injury management and mechanics in cycling were impressive and complimented that of the local pro Kevin Ford, who imparted his theory and wisdom on cycling technique. The rides encountered throughout the tour were spectacular. Although some required quite a bit more effort than others, these offered some magnificent views and scenery as a reward. Among the highlights was a climb to the top of the Mortirolo Pass, not for the faint hearted!I couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough, especially for those physiotherapists looking to enhance their knowledge of cycling
“The concept is very good.”“The cycle specific exercises and theory relating to how the body works on the bike……..was very valuable.”“The Bike Set-Up component and Cycling related ‘Load Mastery’ will influence my management of cyclists immeasurably”“I really enjoyed the epidemiology of cycling injuries, as well as the detailed management of these injuries at the elite level.”
